Going on a dinosaur hunt!

We have spent the last couple of days chasing dinosaurs! Well not really obviously, but we have been to Lark Quarry to see the footprints of the only known dinosaur stampede. Lark Quarry is about 100km from Winton, in outback Queensland. At first it is a pretty easy drive and then you hit the dirt and of course dirt roads after rain become mud roads! Our poor car was unrecognisable by the time we got there but we had some serious 4WD street cred.

The dinosaur tracks were really interesting and from just these prints they were able to piece together the story of the stampede.

After Lark Quarry we headed back through Winton (and after a quick hose down at the local cattle yard) we headed on to Hughenden where we spent the night. Today was a nice leisurely pace we only had two and a half hours of driving today so we headed into the town of Hughenden to check out the dinosaur museum where they have the skeleton of ‘Muttaburrasaurus’. We jumped in the car again and headed ‘down the road’ (112km) to Richmond. One thing I cannot get over here is how incredibly flat and boring the drives between towns is. It is a good thing Paul is happy to drive because I am sure I would fall asleep at the wheel.

Anyway, back to Richmond and we went to Kronasaurus Korner, where we got to see heaps of dinosaur fossils that have been found in the area. After Richmond we headed on to Julia Creek where I am currently sitting watching the sun set over the plains and the kids all getting along (for a nice change) and my man cooking dinner and a box of wine chilling in the fridge.
