Carnarvon to Shark Bay

August 6th

We needed to shop desperatly – used up the last of the milk and breakfast cereal this morning. So our first stop was Woolworths for a grocery shop. We then decided to have a bit of a look around Carnarvon and ended up at One Mile Jetty (which after talking to the guy who runs the gift shop it is actually just short of one mile I kindly pointed out that technically it should be called ‘almost one mile jetty’ but he didn’t see the humour.) Claire and Thomas elected to stay in the car while Paul and I and the two little boys walked out on it – it was a rickety old thing that had obviously been repaired many times.

We were a bit lazy coming back and caught the little tram (that ran on the crookedest tracks you have ever seen) and as it is apparently a good fishing spot they had a sign at the end of the jetty that Paul and Sam put to good use!

Back in the car and it was on to Shark Bay which is where Monkey Mia is. As we pulled into the Shark Bay turn off I got Paul to stop so I could get a photo of the sign. There I am happily in the middle of the road taking my photo when I see this huge Winnebago being driven by grey nomads and towing a car (we have learnt that grey nomads go at least 20 km under the speed limit) so I start running towards the car yelling go go go to Paul as I am jumping in so we won’t get stuck behind them. Kind of had a “Little Miss Sunshine” feel to it.

We headed into Denham and set up – the Wooldridges and the Burgesses headed straight down to the jetty to try their hand at fishing – we went down and let the kids have a play in the park by the water.

Another early night because we have to be up early so we can be at Monkey Mia by 7.45am for the Dolphin feeding.
