Popular Exmouth

August 3

Today we left early and drove from Karratha to Exmouth – a long boring drive of which I spent a great deal of time nodding off or going to my ‘happy place’ to avoid listening to the squabbles in the back of the car.

It turns out Exmouth is hugely popular and ridiculously expensive – we have hit a new high for an unpowered campsite so have decided to only stay two nights instead of the planned three. We though if we were camping unpowered we may as well go into the national park and camp there – yeah turns out people queue at the entry to the national park from 7am to get a site – as we didn’t even rock into town until about 3pm we didn’t stand a chance. Oh well I guess it will give us a chance to do yet more washing. This trip can be summed up in three words adventure, petrol and washing!

Once we were set up and had the washing hanging out to dry we decided to do a bit of exploring and headed out to watch the sunset from the lighthouse which was really cool because we got to see dolphins and whales in the distance. On the way home we stopped in and picked up fish and chips for dinner (although I had almost more fish and chips than I could handle and opted for a hamburger which Luke promptly shared me out of half).

When we got back to camp we discovered our trip director Deb had booked us in for a reef cruise and snorkel for tomorrow – cannot wait.
