Snorkelling!

August 5th

Pack up day again and the weather is beautiful – glass bottomed boat and snorkelling here we come! Once we got on the boat we quickly realised that our group of 17 took up most of the boat.

The guy who was taking us out was a real character but obviously had a passion for what he was doing. Within the first few minutes a Green Turtle had swum underneath us which was very exciting – you don’t very often get to see turtles in the wild. We learnt a lot about coral and the types of fish on the way out and then came the best part – snorkelling!

It was a bit cold for Sam and Callum to get in the water so I waited on board with them while Paul was the first one in. Luke couldn’t really get the hang of breathing through the snorkel so he came in quite quickly but Thomas and Claire were loving it.

When Michael came in he looked after the little ones. The water was very cold at first and the actual coral wasn’t as colourful as I thought it would be but it was more than made up for by the fish – every colour of the rainbow. We also had a pod of dolphins swimming about 5m from us but of course I didn’t have my glasses on and couldn’t see them. I guess you could say I swam with dolphins – I just had no idea I was doing it at the time.

We eventually came back in and headed back out through Exmouth and down to Carnarvon. We had to arrive in Carnarvon by 6pm because the caravan park office closed then so we all put the address into our GPS’s and ours had 5.45 pm and Matt’s was a couple of minutes later – at one stage Mikes was 1am the following day. – Not surprisingly we disregarded his.

We made it in time and we did a quick set up because we were only staying the one night. We had absolutely no food so Paul and Claire ducked into town to get some meat for a BBQ while I packed the boys off for showers.
