We had booked a glass bottom boat and snorkelling trip out to Ningaloo Reef for today but unfortunately it had to be postponed due to the high winds. Hopefully we will be able to do it before we leave Exmouth tomorrow morning.
Seeing as our boat trip wasn’t happening and it was really windy we decided to drive into the national park. First stop was the Jabiru Turtle Centre – sadly it wasn’t turtle hatching or laying time but there was still lots of really interesting information.
Next we went to the visitors centre to get more of an idea of what we wanted to see. After we spent time looking at the displays (and spending money on t-shirts) we decided to go to Turquoise Bay for lunch. The bay was beautiful but was made decidedly unpleasant by the wind. The kids paddled their feet and the Wooldridges decided to head back towards town to do some fishing. The Garments and the Burgess’s headed further into the national park to Yardie Creek.
Yardie Creek was like a mini gorge and was pretty interesting because it was a river that was only separated from the ocean by the beach. Doesn’t actually sound that interesting when I type it but trust me it was.
The Garments then headed to Sandy Bay which was beautiful. Thankfully the wind had dropped so the kids took the opportunity to go for a swim in the crystal clear water and the best part was we had the beach to ourselves.
We had an early night because it is pack up day tomorrow and we are all hoping we can go snorkelling so we need to be packed up and gone by 9am.
